Goodbyes and Gobblers

For those of you who have ever lived in Moapa Valley, we are losing an icon...Mrs. Kim Delgadillo, our high school band and orchestra teacher (Ms. D) is finally retiring from her position at the school to take the counselor position at the middle school. She has been directing the band and orchestra at the high school for 25 years! She said that she is starting to teach the children of kids she taught years ago. She has meant so much to not only the school, but to the community, and mostly to my big girls, as they are former "pirates". Kira, Lexie, and Michaela went through the band program under Ms. D's wings, Kira playing in the not only the band, but in Jazz Band for three years. Lexie almost idolizes her, as she had made a huge difference in her surviving high school as a legally blind student. Michaela then, and Tibi now have loved being taught by her too. My only sadness is that Landon will not get the opportunity to have a wonderful experience with her. As the principal said last night in his tribute, "She didn't teach band, she taught people." Here are all of the bands playing what has become our signature song, in honor of her, from "Pirates of the Caribbean". It was wonderfully loud! The kind of loud that sends chills up your back...

The chickens are getting bigger by the day. They love to eat scraps, except for citrus. They especially love any kind of lettuce and meat. They are finally getting used to my voice and coming around me more often. The rest of the family is not in the "circle" yet. Their loss!

I can't believe D. is leaving! I can't imagine the school without her and I wasn't even in band! I hope that being in band will still be cool at MVHS. I guess it's pretty rare that band is cool in HS.

She'll never know what she was to me personally. She might know what she did for the school and the community, you could see what she did. You could feel it so strongly even though it was intangible. As an individual though, everybody has those people in their lives. The ones that are so near perfect, you can't believe they are really here...among you. She wasn't just my Band and Orchestra teacher. She didn't just teach us about music. She taught us about life and truth, and what is right and wrong. I can't imagine High School without knowing the feeling I would get everytime I walked into the Band room. The Band room was home on campus. There was no where else I would have rather been. I felt so comfortable there, because it was her room, and she was there. I guess a lot of us are fortunate enough to go through High School and have growing and learning experiences about life with a teacher like that, and there's that one teacher who makes your whole high school experience what it is, like a corner stone. She was "that" teacher for me and I pray I never forget all the things she taught me, the challenges she put in front of me, the faith and trust she had in me, the pep talks, her quirky remarks, her fast walk, her loud voice, her swiveling hip, her bright blue and gold outfits, her perfectionism, her ability to get us all excited, her good attitude in every circumstance, everything. I will never forget. I can't believe how much love and respect I feel for just one person, that one teacher.

Its true so sad! It just wont be the same without her! We played that song at the end of our concert to her suprise. And of course she started crying when the drum majors started clapping! :) I really just hope the band program doesnt go down cause that would be so sad! Thats what I looked forward to in 8th grade...D being my band teacher. I'm still happy I got her for a year she is great! And its true...she really did change our community. Haha "I teach high school for a reason" :]

Ms. D was awesome- I really hope they get someone in there that is just as excited and hard working. Of course, most of my fondest memories of high school came from my experiences in jazz band. And D was a great motivating teacher who would push any student to their best. I have to say though, I wasn't impressed with what she taught me about music as much as I was impressed about what she taught me about always having good sportsmanship and class. She's a good hearted person with a lot of integrity.

Also, if I were a chicken, I would want Mom to be my owner.....and p.s. mom- I don't know if you should be feeding them eggs...kinda like making them into cannibals. And I hear that does weird stuff to any animal....especially humans

It is hard to fathom MVHS going on without Kim Delgadillo!
