Okay, my kids are starting to tease me about this...but what can I say? I'm a succor for good, clean, make-you-feel-good kind of TV watching, and let's face it...there's not much on cable TV that fits into that category. Now my big girls are going to give me the business over this one, but I just can't get into watching a gay guy talking about fashion, or having to watch a show week after week, just to see who wins in the end, and frankly, I don't even miss watching Food Network that much, but this show... oh how it brings back the memories. When my big girls were younger, and we watched Disney Channel just waiting for this series to come on every week, that's when life was good - even for just the night. This is Road To Avonlea - a spinoff from the Anne of Green Gables movies, set in Avonlea with new characters like Hetty King, Felicity and Felix, and some thrown in from Anne also, like Marilla and Rachel Lynde, who ends up in all seven series' of the show.
When I watch these, half of me wonders how great it would have been to live back in that time - the early 1900's, especially if you could have lived on Prince Edward Island in eastern Canada. The scenery and landscape would have been enough ( I live in Nevada where nothing is green), and a simpler time would have been kind of nice...but then I think of all of the conveniences that I have today - indoor plumbing, instant hot water, an air conditioned car, and then I think that it might just be a nice show to keep watching, just for the "feel good" of it. So, now I am on my last season - season 7, where all things come to an end. I'm sad that it won't go on forever, but at least I have found something that not only made me feel good for a time, but also made me grateful for a lifetime.

I'm glad you liked it so much. I loved it when I was a kid. Back then, there was always something good on Disney, too bad that's not the case anymore, it's pretty lame. It's also too bad you can't get into Project Runway, to watch these people sketch and turn out a complete runway outfit in 24 hours is so awesome and then it's fun to judge them when they come down the runway. I don't think much about who is gay or who's not, it's not what the show is about at all. I just love the fashion and the creative part about it. For the first show (2 days ago) they had to make a look from the pajamas they had on and one bed sheet(they were dragged out of bed to the work room) It's just fun like that to see what they come up with, and you always have a few that are clearly the worst, but most of it turns out so good and something you'd want to wear. I love just watching them work in the workroom, watching them cut or sew on the machines, or sketch, or drape their fabrics and place them. I don't sew but I like clothes, so I love this show! PR & SYTYCD rock! You can still find a little bit of clean TV, but just a little ha ha
OHHhh I have a show for you...Larkrise to Candleford!! It is set in late 1800's England and such a sweet series. You can get all 4 seasons now at Costco even. It totally reminds me of Ann of Green Gables. You have to try it. By the way I have been to Green gables farm and it is lovely. Huge contrast to the desert especially in the summer.
OH MY GOSH! Anne with an e! ha ha
I agree....nothing better than good wholesome shows that don't keep me on the edge of my chair fearful of an inappropriate word or scene. Very few left on tv anymore.
I love, love, love Anne (with an e Lexie!)of Green Gables. My girls and I still sit down every now and then and watch them all, including Anne of Avonlea. I have never even heard of this series you are talking about, but I may have to look into it.
Well it's not as good as anne because it centers more around the children in this series and an annoying little girl named Sara. The saving grace is Alec and Olivia (adult characters) but we liked it as kids. It was on Disney in the early 90's right before we moved to the valley.
First off, Mom, you are judging Project Runway really harshly for not giving it a chance. Hanging around Michaela too long? Haha, jk Michaela, don't bite my head off.
I LOVED Road to Avonlea as a kid. I'll have to Netflix a few.
I DID give it a chance...and I couldn't handle it. I liked the fashion part of it, but I couldn't stand "what's his name." I don't think Avonlea is available on Netflix, I already looked. Good luck. I got mine at the library.
It is available. I netflixed it a while ago but couldn't get through them...Sara's just too annoying to me now...anyway, I can't believe that Tim could be enough to completely ruin Project Runway for you? The designing and sewing of it and everything? I mean, he acts like a lot of other gay people out there. Is it gay people, or just Tim? It doesn't really matter...if he bugs you then he bugs you. Too bad though, that it has to ruin everything else about the show for you.
Haha, Oh Connie.. I don't mind. I don't NOT like the show. I just don't like any of those shows enough to take the time and watch them. Ha. It's been entertaining when I have watched it though.
That's pretty bad when I don't put the E on the end considering my own name is Anne with an E. Moral of the story don't be in such a hurry in life that you miss the details because someone somewhere is sure to notice! Good catch girl.
